Why was version 15 released shortly after the release of version 14?

For the first time in more than 20 years of Password Depot’s history a new main version has been released shortly after the release of the previous main version, in this case specifically after seven months only.

This step was necessary due to different reasons, most importantly to join all changes and newly developed features in a new main version.

Another reason for releasing a new main version was the redevelopment of the iOS, Android and macOS app in their individual native development environment. We therefore wanted to join all new features by releasing a new main version.

In addition to that, we also changed our licensing for the Enterprise Server which could only be realized with a new main version. With version 15 onwards, the Enterprise Server always includes one year of maintenance when purchasing it. Upgrades and updates with active maintenance are always for free. Maintenance can always be extended – up to three years. We think that our customers can benefit from this new licensing since cost calculation for the operation and use of Password Depot can be determined exactly for many years. Besides, maintenance is much more reasonable than purchasing an upgrade as it was the case before the release of version 15.

If maintenance is not terminated 30 days prior to its expiration, it will be extended automatically for another year. Of course, we will inform our customers 60 and 30 days prior to this date by email.

If maintenance has expired and has not been extended, you have two options for upgrading your licenses: You can either extend your maintenance retroactively or purchase an upgrade, depending on what is more efficient for you.

Up to version 14, maintenance could only be purchased once and for one year at maximum only. Furthermore, it could not be extended if expired. From version 15 onward, we now offer a common model of software maintenance which you probably may already know from many other enterprise applications.

Further changes regarding our licensing are the following: Enterprise Server and client licenses are not sold separately anymore but together and we also changed our server sizes to smaller groups of users, starting at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 etc.
