How can I "reset" the administrator's password in Password Depot Enterpise Server?


When adding new databases to Password Depot Enterprise Server they are encrypted with the administrator's password (the password of the super admin). In those cases, the database's original master password is overwritten and not valid anymore.

Thus, "resetting" the administrator's password is not possible in the conventional sense!

Although you can reset the administrator's password to log in to the Server Manager again this will require to add all databases manually again. To do so, please proceed as described below:

  • Stop Password Depot Enterprise Server or rather the server service in the Windows services.
  • Delete the pwd_srv.cfg file which is located in the directory C:\Program Files\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 15\Data in version 15 by default. Up to version 11 the cfg file can be found in the Enterprise Server's program directory.
  • Restart the server service.

Hint: Afterwards, you have to manually add all databases to the server again in order to encrypt them with the new password.


If you want to change the admin password or username, click the Users tab in the Server Manager and select the user admin. Right-click on the admin user and open the user's Properties. You can change the settings in the Account tab.
