Why does the Enterprise Server not accept another location for storing server backup files?

If you want to change the backup folder for databases in the Server Manager via Manage -> Server Settings -> Backups, please note the following:

A backup of your databases, configuration file and logs is an extremely important feature and must be free from any possible failures. If Password Depot Enterprise Server cannot create a backup and store it to the user defined backup folder for any reason, then the target path will automatically be restored to the default value (C:\Program Files\AceBIT\Password Depot Server 17\Backups\).

If you would like to change the default path for storing your backups, then please take the following into account:

  • For performance reasons, using a local HDD/SSD is highly recommended rather than using network or removable drives.

  • Password Depot Enterprise Server is usually running as a Windows service under the SYSTEM account, and thus it must have full read/write access to the target folder.

  • If you want to use a network share or mapped drive, make sure the SYSTEM account can access that location on system startup. In some cases, it might be helpful to change the start type of the Password Depot service from  “Automatic” to “Automatic (Delayed start)”.
