Why does the Enterprise Server do not accept another location for storing server backup files?

If you want to change the backup folder for databases in the Server Manager via Manage -> Server Settings -> Additional-> Backup folder, please note the following:

A backup of password databases and configuration files is an extremely important feature and must be free from any possible failures. If Password Depot Enterprise Server cannot create a backup and store it to the user defined backup folder for any reason, then the target path will always revert to the default value (\Password Depot Server 15\Backups\) automatically.

If you plan to change the default backup folder location, please take into account the following:

  • For performance reasons using of a local HDD/SSD is preferred than network or removable drives.

  • Password Depot Enterprise Server is usually running as a Windows service under the SYSTEM account, and thus that account must have full read/write access to the target folder.

  • If you want to use a network share or mapped drive, make sure the SYSTEM account can access that location on system startup. In some cases it might be helpful to change the start type for Password Depot service from  “Automatic” to “Automatic (Delayed start)”.
