Why are my entries not saved correctly?

If you cannot see newly added entries after updating and you miss them, the data has not been lost. Rather, the problem is usually related to incorrect administration of rights or a lack of access rights.

In principle, you can use the Server Manager to see which entries have been saved in the database. To do this, go to "Databases" and select the database you want. Then, select the database authorizations for a specific user or group. The "Entries and folders" tab shows all folders and sub-folders as well as the entries that have been added to the database and are now permanently stored there:

If the missing data can be seen here, the entry with all the information it contains has been correctly added to the database and is also contained in it. The newly added data has not been lost, but the rights management is designed in such a way that the respective user cannot see this entry after the new creation.

Therefore, please check whether the rights management in the Server Manager - as described in the two following articles - is designed correctly:

How do I have to set the user permissions to ensure they can only see those objects they are allowed to access?

How does rights management in Password Depot Enterprise Server work?

Please also note that users can only search for entries that they are authorized to access in the Server Manager.

View error messages in the Windows Event Viewer

If, on the other hand, there was an error during the saving process, you can see this in the Windows Event Viewer. You can get there in Windows 10 by right-clicking on the Windows icon in the lower left corner and clicking on Event Viewer.

Here, under Application and Service Logs > Password Depot Server, all errors are listed that the Password Depot Server reports if the storage process could not be carried out correctly. If no error messages can be seen here, the entries have been saved correctly in the database.

In the event of error messages in the event viewer on the subject of "saving", you should also check whether the SYSTEM account has full access to the program directory of Password Depot Enterprise Server and all subdirectories. This is absolutely necessary in order to be able to work correctly with the program.

If possible, the databases should also be stored on the local hard drive and not on mapped drives.
